The day — 2026-08-28

The complete daily reading rhythm: the pre-market Morning Note, then the after-close Evening Note. Same day, two editions.

Friday August 28, 2026 · 5:51AM PT · written before the open · data as of the 5:30am extraction

Growth led Thursday’s tape: QQQ rose 1.4% to 721.11, ahead of SPY’s 0.7% gain to 771.10 and IWM’s 0.3% move to 299.81. Software and security supplied the force. OKTA jumped 28.6% on $1.9 billion in dollar volume, CRM gained 22.6% on $10.1 billion, and CRWD added 20.5% on $4.0 billion; SNPS, PANW, NOW and PATH also rose between 9.4% and 13.4%. MSTR climbed 11.5%. The setup is a market rewarding growth, but with notably narrower participation outside the QQQ complex.

Financial Twitter is chasing NVDA most aggressively: 296 signals carried 95.1 net sentiment, alongside the argument that software has broken to yearly highs with semiconductors. CRM’s 74 signals and 25.7 sentiment fit the price action, but enthusiasm and price disagree elsewhere. IREN drew 152 signals with only 10.5 sentiment amid questions about contract transparency, while MRVL’s underwhelming outlook produced 90 signals and 18.9 sentiment despite an 8% premarket decline. PYPL sentiment is firmly negative at -39.0. BTC remains constructive at 47.6 sentiment, though the discussion includes mining stress. Meanwhile, custom silicon, neocloud capacity, SpaceX proxies and macro hedges are all fading; newer altcoin, cancer-vaccine, autonomy and runner themes have yet to displace them.

Today’s useful map is less about following Thursday’s winners than testing agreement. NOW gained 10.0% and remains the cleanest shared long across the book and three models. RBRK and PURR also have multiple book votes, though RBRK carries a dissenting short from v9n; S is similarly split, while MRVL and IREN have explicit model shorts against active crowd debate. MSTR’s 11.5% rise meets a v9n short, another clean disagreement to watch. The prospect list is quieter: SE is backed by five authors but has moved just 0.9% in five days, ISRG is down 2.0%, and IDN has one signal. BABA’s dilution thesis has six supporters, materially more than the political-risk cases for PLTR and COIN. Finally, sharp book-imbalance reversals in AMC, HSAI, ENVX, ARDX and RXRX deserve attention as trading oddities, not theses.

Worth exploring

Prospect Radar (2026-08-28) — research candidates, not signals:

  • COIN (bear, large, 1 supporters): A Democratic midterm victory could pressure Coinbase because its regulatory outlook and corporate positioning are associated with Republican policy. — @Myeongsu_bean: “A Democratic midterm victory could sharply hurt companies publicly aligned with Republicans.”

Friday August 28, 2026 · 6:24PM PT · written after the close · what mattered today, what to think about tonight

Friday’s tape was soft at the index level but harsher underneath. SPY slipped 0.2% to 769.35 and QQQ lost 0.6% to 716.43, while IWM fell 1.4% to 295.75. The damage clustered in payments, crypto-linked names and semiconductors: PYPL dropped 12.7% on $1.2 billion in dollar volume, IREN 12.5% on $2.1 billion, MRVL 10.3% on $6.7 billion, MSTR 7.3%, LITE 6.4% and COIN 6.3%. PCG also fell 7.5%. WDAY was the conspicuous exception, gaining 5.8%.

The crowd spent the session trying to reconcile resilience in the largest platforms with weakness around them. NVDA drew 449 signals and positive 36.8 sentiment, even as discussion emphasized that exceptional results had translated into only a 3% gain since October 2025. AMZN sentiment reached 71.6 amid reports of broad megacap strength, while SPY and QQQ sentiment stayed slightly negative and technicians flagged weakness in SMH and IWM. The sharpest disagreement was IREN: it fell 12.5%, yet its 220 signals carried positive 11.6 sentiment. BTC discussion was positive too, despite the selloff in MSTR and COIN. No new story cohered, and none formally died; six familiar clusters, from custom silicon to neocloud capacity and SpaceX proxies, simply faded well below their daily baselines.

The forming picks suggest the next session may be less about one market call than about sorting rebounds from continuing breaks. MRVL is both a v6n2 short and a v9n long after Friday’s 10.3% fall; IREN appears as a v9n long despite its collapse, while CLSK is a short. LPTH is a long in two models, and AMZN’s crowd enthusiasm is echoed by a modelV31 long. The evening prospects—SE, MSOS and CLS—come from only two to five authors each and have barely moved over five days, offering quieter ideas against an unsettled book of NOW, RBRK and PURR longs. With no mechanics oddities but several dealer books flipping almost completely, including AMPG, SNDR, CAI, RXRX and ARDX, is Friday’s weakness creating selective mean-reversion setups, or are contradictory model signals warning that the market has not finished separating durable strength from crowded narrative?

Tomorrow forming — session 2026-08-31

The seated models' read of the forming session (reconstructed — point-in-time replay of the preview logic over the signal corpus as it stood at this hour; no archival 18:00 snapshot exists for this session). Partial bucket: signals keep arriving until the 06:15 PT cutoff, so the morning's canonical picks can differ.

Evening prospects

Top research candidates on the radar tonight — NOT trade signals (quiet name + first substantive touch by a graded author + no mechanics poison).
